The Great Buddha of Kamakura

鎌倉大仏

Address: 4 Chome-2-28 Hase, Kamakura, Kanagawa 248-0016

Cost: 300 Yen per Adult (Cash only)

Today we will visit the Kōtoku-in (高徳院) which is a Buddhist temple of the Jōdo-shū, in the city of Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The Great Buddha of Kamakura (鎌倉大仏) is huge and it was built in the 13th century.

It takes about 20 - 25 minutes walk from the JR Kamakura Station. Please use the West exit. There are many coin lockers can be rented both inside and outside the station. It could take one whole day to explore Kumakura, so I would utilize the lockers if you have a lot of belongings with you. They range from 100 - 500 yen per day depends on the size of the lockers. The lockers accepted coins or electronic transportation cards; such as suica and pasmo.

There is a Starbucks Reserve on your right side which about 5 minutes away from the Kamakura Station. It is a unique designed building; however, I did not visit it. If you have time, it will be a great time to take break and enjoy some good coffee.

Address: 15-11 Onarimachi, Kamakura, Kanagawa 248-0012

Open Hours: 7am - 9pm

This is the admission ticket that you will get to enter the Kamakura temple.

The back side of the admission tickets, they can be used as bookmarks

The temple is very quiet and peaceful.

Although it take a little bit of work, I think it is worth to take a trip to the Kamakura temple. You can visit the Kamukura food street on the other side of station after.
