We visited the Japan Olympic Museum located in Shinjuku, Tokyo today. You may access to the museum from Kokuritsu-kyogijo Metro Station (国立競技場駅) or Gaiemmae Metro Station (外苑前駅). It will take 6 minutes walk from Gaiemmae Metro Station or 8 minutes walk from Kokuritsu-kyogijo Metro Station.

This is the panoramic view outside the Olympic Museum. There are many stadiums and also gift shops around the museum. I would spend half a day to explore the area.

You will need to purchase the admission ticket ahead on their official web site ahead of time. If not, no worries. You can purchase it on your phone by scanning the QR code they provide by the entrance of the museum. All visitors are only allowed to stay in the museum for 1 hour. It closes at 5:00pm every day and last admission is 4:30pm. Also, taking pictures is allowed but no video is allowed.

There museum has 2 floors. You will start your journey from the 2 floor and make your way out to 1 floor as you explore. There are many exhibitions such as Olympic torch, uniforms, gears, history, and stadium models etc.

On the second floor, there are some games you can play to compete with the other visitors of the day which was so much fun.

The official mascot of the 2022 Winter Olympic - Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon

You may find these folders to take home right before the exit of the museum and each visitor can have one.

I visited the gift shop after and purchased this “Cheer Flag Hood Towel” for 1300 yen. You can wear and cheer for your favorite Japan team next time when you watch any games. How cute it is. One small thing to keep in mind is the gift shop only credit card payment for purchase over 5,000 yen, so please remember to prepare some cash if you would like to purchase a souvenir to bring home.
